Well, granted we have only written this post as its topical at the moment… To be honest, not being an American, but nevertheless being a fan of American TV I did not know who Chuck Lorre was until the recent Charlie Sheen/Chuck Lorre incidents. However I had noticed that a certain genre of US Sitcoms that all had a similar feeling about them…
Chuck Lorre is a sitcom writer whose shows include, Roseanne, Dharma & Greg, Two and a Half Men and The BIg Bang Theory have all been very popular and drawn large viewing audiences.
So what’s the theme running through these sitcoms…
Well I think its the humor, or lack of it! I don’t wish to be mean, but particularly with the last 2 on the list (Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory) I found the jokes to all be fairly predictable, obvious and slightly painful/embarrassing to watch. I admit to finding parts of Roseanne entertaining and perhaps, at times, even funny, but I can’t really understand how this brand of comedy has become so popular.
Obviously he is a successful guy and statistics prove that he is talented at what he does, but I am still confused. Am I missing something? I would be interested to hear what anyone else thinks!
